Finding Your Purpose In Life
Discovering Your Purpose and Pursue It
I know, we’ve all seen titles like this and rolled our eyes—Finding your life Purpose? What does that even mean? We’ve heard it so many times that it starts to feel cliché. But think about it this way: a few things are as fulfilling as truly discovering your purpose. Let’s not overlook that.
Purpose isn’t just a small idea; it’s the essence of why you exist. It’s what makes life more than just going through the motions, living day by day without direction. Purpose defines why you were born, the reason you were created, and the gateway to a life of true fulfillment.
Discovering and pursuing your purpose leads to a life rich in meaning and fulfillment. Wouldn’t you like to live for fulfillment instead of wasting precious days and time?
No matter your culture, race, or economic status, purpose is universal.
In this post, I’ll explore what purpose truly means, why it’s vital, and share practical ways to pursue it.
What Is Purpose?
In Dr. Munroe’s Book “In Pursuit of Purpose” He said it best “Purpose is the original intent and cause for the creation or existence of a thing. It is the reason something exists or was made, and it defines its function and role in life. When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable.”
Purpose is not just about having a goal or ambition; it’s deeper than that. It’s the inner driving force that fills the emptiness many feel when their lives lack direction.
Sure, you might have a great career that pays well and offers plenty of perks, but does it truly give you the satisfaction your heart deeply desires?
This is where purpose comes in and gives you a reason to wake up each morning with passion, ready to conquer the day. It protects you from wasting your precious time on things that don’t serve your ultimate fulfillment.
Now let me just add here what fulfillment means when it comes to purpose:
Fulfillment is the deepest sense of satisfaction and contentment that comes from aligning your actions, choices, and efforts with your core values, passions, and calling.
It’s the feeling of being whole, living authentically, and contributing to something greater than yourself.
For us Millennials, fulfillment becomes a vital source of inner peace, boosting our confidence and self-worth—qualities we need to thrive in a society that often diminishes our potential.
By the way, did you know that your existence is evidence that this generation needs something that your life contains? No amount of external success can replace the intrinsic power and motivation that come from discovering your special calling/niche and working toward your dreams.
Without purpose, life often feels like a haphazard journey, filled with frustration, disappointments, and failures. This is where purpose provides clarity by choice, aligning your decisions and actions with a greater sense of direction.
When you answer specific questions about your passions, values, and talents you begin to shift your mindset and allow yourself to focus on what is unique to you.
The Cost of a Life Without Purpose
I know for a fact people are wrestling with a deep inner emptiness emerging from a lack of clarity about their purpose. I know I did at first. For me, it felt like there was a great big hole in my life—something vital was missing.
You might find yourself chasing accomplishments or trying to live up to someone else’s definition of success, yet still feel unsatisfied. This emptiness often comes from neglecting the unique reason for your existence.
Living without purpose comes at a high cost. It robs you of your fulfillment, leaving you feeling directionless and discontent despite outward success. Emotionally, it leads to frustration and disappointment. Mentally, it can create a sense of stagnation, and Socially, it prevents you from contributing your true potential to the world.
I always ask myself, why don’t we, as Millennials, talk about these things? Perhaps we’ve been conditioned to focus on surface-level achievements rather than the deeper, more meaningful aspects of life. This is why I have a passion for writing about it.
Because the truth is, that purpose goes beyond what society defines as success. It’s all about living authentically, I can’t stress this enough.
What will it take for us to embrace our uniqueness, and channel it into something that brings value to ourselves and others?
What’s holding you back from discovering yours?
How to Find Your Purpose
Finding your purpose is as simple as thinking your way through and answering thought-provoking questions– As I mentioned before your purpose, identity, uniqueness, and potential are deeply interconnected. Here are some steps to help you uncover it:
- Check Out Your Uniqueness
Take time to reflect on what differentiates you from the billions of people on Earth. What are your strengths, passions, and values? These clues can point to your Life purpose. Think about what you love doing, what others often come to you for, and what feels meaningful to you. - Explore Your Inner Voice
Spend quiet moments journaling or meditating to listen to your inner voice. What dreams have you set aside? What makes you lose track of time when you’re doing it? These are indicators of your calling. - Embrace Your Story
Often, our greatest struggles hold the key to our purpose. Reflect on your journey and the lessons you’ve learned. Perhaps you have already written it down. All your experiences, both good and bad, can help shape your unique contribution to the world. - Ask the Right Questions
Answer questions that guide you toward your purpose:- What problem am I passionate about solving?
- What brings me joy and fulfillment?
- How can my skills and talents make a difference?
- Start Small and Take Action
Purpose isn’t something you stumble upon overnight—it’s something you grow into. Begin by pursuing activities that align with your passions and values. Volunteer, explore new interests, or enroll in courses like How to Find Your ‘Why’ to deepen your commitment to discovering YOU. Small steps can lead to big revelations. - Seek Feedback
Sometimes others see our potential more clearly than we do. Talk to trusted friends or mentors who can provide insights about your strengths and how you might use them to make an impact.
